Eligibility

To join Lexington at Home, you must:

  • Live in Lexington.  While there is no minimum age, our members are generally 50 or older.
  • Commit to being an active volunteer as described under responsibilities
  • Pay the annual membership fee. This fee is established to cover present and anticipated expenses and may be raised, with the approval of the members, if the level of service or the number of activities warrants.  As of 2024, the annual membership fee is $30 per person.

Benefits

Members can participate in Lexington at Home and Chapter Events. They have access to the Members section of the website, which includes chapter information and announcements, a message board for posting activities or information, contact lists, and by laws and archives of the organization.  Finally, Lexington at Home maintains a list of vendors who have been vetted by members. This list is maintained as a service exclusively for Lexington at Home members by the Board and can be found in the members section of the website

Responsibilities

Each member of Lexington at Home is expected to assume at least one volunteer role. These may include:

  • Serving on a Resource Team to gather information about access to local services and agencies
  • Signing up for “Help in a Pinch”, which provides members with short-term but badly needed assistance: driving, providing meals, friendly visiting, doing errands, walking the dog – whatever is important to someone in need of a temporary helping hand
  • Hosting meetings, either the monthly gatherings or the interest groups
  • Serving on a Chapter Steering Committee or on the Lexington at Home Board.
  • Assisting with website administration
  • When possible, taking on a responsibility when the call comes
